New Year Resolutions Don't Have Power To Change. Resurrection Power Does

If you truly want something new—something that does not end in the same habits that pull you down year after year—submit your life to Jesus and experience the new life He promised.

Why is it that year after year we make New Year’s resolutions—yet year after year, we return to the same habits, the same fears, and the same failures?

Let’s be honest: New Year’s resolutions have lost their effectiveness. Most resolutions focus on getting rid of bad habits. We promise ourselves we will stop, change, and do better. But the moment we fail in one area, we conclude, “This doesn’t work.” Then we quietly return to our old patterns—until the next year, when the same cycle begins all over again.

So why do we keep failing?

Because abandoning bad habits without a compelling reason is not enough to sustain sacrifice. No one gives up something difficult without a strong “why.” And beyond motivation, we need a power greater than our own discipline—because discipline runs out, but real transformation requires something deeper.

The Bible offers a radically different solution:

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

The answer is not self-improvement, but self-surrender. In Christ, we recognize that our old self must die. That is exactly what Jesus accomplished on the cross. Though He never sinned, He took the punishment meant for us. Out of love, He did what we could never do—pay for our own sin. And He did not remain in the grave. He rose again to offer us a new life, a life empowered by His resurrection, capable of real transformation, hope, and faith.

That is why New Year’s resolutions are outdated. They rely on human effort alone. But the resurrection power of God is the only power on earth that enables us to truly leave the old life behind and step into the promises of God—not through willpower, but through grace.

If you truly want something new—something that does not end in the same habits that pull you down year after year—submit your life to Jesus and experience the new life He promised.

For entrepreneurs and leaders: This is the real breakthrough. We cannot reach the pinnacle of our potential while clinging to old mindsets, old fears, and old ways of doing things. Growth always requires leaving the old behind and walking into the new.

As you step into 2026, do not add another resolution to your list. Make a decision to surrender. Leave the old life behind. Take hold of the new. Walk in the power God provides.

Declaration: May 2026 be the year of your breakthrough—the year you accomplish things you never thought possible, not by your own strength, but by the power of God at work in you.
